Empties turned into food

With the loss of $100,000 in gaming grants to the Upper Room Mission, fundraising is taking on an even greater importance.

Lisa Anderson, URM fundraising director, reminds people empty bottles can be turned into healthy food for less fortunate children in the community.

“We take your donated cans/bottles, and turn it into money to support our Healthy Snack Program, which feeds over 250 local school kids in Vernon,” said Anderson. “Your donations are greatly appreciated and help feed children that may have gone without a meal during school time.”

Bottles, cans and juice boxes can be dropped off at the Upper Room Mission, 3403 27 Ave., Monday to Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
