Watch the water

Duteau Creek water reservoirs are at full capacity and are beginning to spill, according to the North Okanagan Regional District.

Excess water from the snow melt and rain will pass over the spillway structures at the dams.

People living, working or recreating near creeks and streams are advised to use caution around swift moving water as water levels may rise quickly during this time.

Despite the early runoff, Greater Vernon Water is not yet predicting drought.

“Our drought management plan provides us with trigger dates that we look at reservoir levels, customer water use (demand) , B.C. river forecast reports and upland snow packs,” said Renee Clark, water quality manager.

“Good news is there is still snow in the upper elevation and our reservoirs are full.”
