UPDATE: 9:04 P.M.
Vernon Search and Rescue volunteers were involved in the rescue of an injured man who was located at the bottom of a steep cliff near Turtle Mountain late Monday afternoon, according to a spokesperson.
"The rescue team faced difficult conditions, which included a very steep slope and loose, unstable rock," said Trevor Honigman, of Vernon SAR.
"Members were able to assist the B.C. Ambulance crew in stabilizing the subject, carefully moving him into a stretcher, and using ropes in transporting him down the rock slope to the waiting ambulance."
The man was taken to Vernon Jubilee Hospital with undetermined injuries, said Honigman.
There was a harrowing rescue in Vernon this evening.
Vernon Search and Rescue plucked a man from a cliff overlooking the city.
He became stuck at Turtle Mountain, above the Bella Vista area.
There are hiking trails at the top of the bluff. Below are farmer’s fields.
A helicopter was initially called out, but was waved off when SAR technicians lowered the male from the cliff with ropes and a backboard.
He was taken from the scene in an ambulance.
