Way paved for Enderby

The way has been cleared for the City of Enderby to borrow $467,000 for its Cliffe Avenue revitalization project.

The alternative approval process ended Monday with 195 people opposed to borrowing the funds, said Mayor Greg McCune.

“I don't think it was anything to worry about,” said McCune. “I think it was about seven per cent (of residents opposed).”

At least ten per cent of homeowners had to oppose the project to stop borrowing.

The city had made it clear that the $1.9 million of work would have gone forward no matter what, as critical infrastructure is at the end of its lifecycle and must be replaced.

McCune said some people had wanted the money taken out of reserves rather than borrowing, but there was concern that other projects, such as a Riverwalk expansion, could then not go forward if grant money became available.

“It's over,” said McCune. “Now we'll move forward.”
