Rec Centre's new look

The front entrance to the Vernon Recreation Centre reopens on April 18, allowing easier access to the main front parking lot.

Phase one of the project, which is still underway, includes a new bridge, extensive work on the main entrance and lobby, and installation of a healthy food kiosk.

The front entrance and parking lot have been closed since June 2015 when the project began.

"This will be a soft opening as there are still a number of aspects of phase one to be completed, including final work on the registration office, landscaping, installation of benches, tables and the start up of the food kiosk," said Doug Ross, director of recreation services.

Phase two will soon be underway and includes installation of disabled accessible doors at the westside entrance and pool viewing area, as well as upgrades to flooring, lighting and storage.

The west entrance and hallway will be closed starting April 18 while work is underway. Drivers will be asked to use the front parking lots until work is completed in late May.

"We have been very pleased with the fact that participation levels have remained high during phase one and we hope that will continue for phase two of the project," said Ross.
