Kids out, washrooms locked

The sun is shining, children have been out of school for almost two weeks on spring break, but the washrooms at Polson Park are locked and some people are wondering why.

Alanna Austring Yousif took to social media to specifically ask city councillor Scott Anderson why the bathroom doors remain bolted shut.

“It's a beautiful day, spring break, and literally hundreds of people here, but nowhere to take the kids to go to the bathroom,” said Yousif.

Anderson quickly responded.

“I asked at the last council meeting, and they are scheduled to open on April 1. At this point there's no sense changing the timings for this year, but I will bring it up next year for March, at least on Easter weekend,” Anderson replied.

“Yes it really would make more sense to go by the weather instead of a date. We've been coming here for at least three weeks already,” replied Yousif, who was pleased with Anderson's prompt response.

Patrick Vance waded in, saying “Personally I thought the porta potty was a brilliant idea as a kind of temporary measure, but as I pointed out in a previous post, it was padlocked. I think if that's all they had for a few weeks until park staff came on, that would be enough. It just has to be unlocked during the day, is all.”
