Salmon Arm bank robbed

Salmon Arm's Bank of Montreal was robbed Wednesday afternoon.

RCMP were called to the Trans Canada Highway branch at 2:45 p.m.

Despite a rapid response by police, the lone male suspect got away with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Investigators said the man entered the bank about 2:30 p.m. and handed a note to the teller, demanding cash. If she didn't do it quickly, there would be trouble, the note said.

The teller handed over cash, and the robber fled toward the highway. No weapon was seen and no one was injured in the incident.

Uniformed and plain clothes RCMP officers converged on the area, along with an RCMP dog unit. A search failed to turn up the suspect, who is described as:

  • Caucasian male
  • Clean shaven
  • 30-35 years old
  • Approximately 5'8"-5'10"
  • Medium build
  • Red knee-length shorts with a dark stripe on the sides
  • Light grey pullover hoodie
  • Dark shirt under hoodie
  • Camouflage ball cap
  • White-haired wig under the cap, with short, dark hair sticking out

“RCMP investigators have not ruled out the possibility that the man fled the area in a vehicle. We are asking that if anyone may have seen anything suspicious in the area of the Bank of Montreal Salmon Arm branch on Wednesday to contact the Salmon Arm RCMP at 250-832-6044,” said Cpl. Dan Moskaluk.
