No Enderby air concerns

North Enderby Timber Company has applied for a major permit amendment from the Ministry of Environment to add two new dry kilns to one already in the works yard.

While emissions will increase by 15 per cent, the company has assured the City of Enderby that new dust collection systems have led to far less sawdust in the air during the past four years.

“What was the normal amount of sawdust emitting from saw systems is no longer normal operating conditions,” said Ben Henderson in an email to the city. “Considering the new collection and treatment, there should be a noticeable decrease in the overall sawdust emanating from our operations.”

“They're working with the Ministry of Environment to ensure their particle release is within standards,” said Enderby Mayor Greg McCune. “They're very conscious of the environment, so I'm sure it will work out fine.”

McCune said no concerns were mentioned during city council's meeting on Monday.
