Lumby hopes for title

Vote Lumby and vote often.

The small North Okanagan community was named as one of the two finalists in the Kraft Hockeyville 2016 contest Saturday evening, meaning Lumby will get $100,000 to renovate the aging Pat Duke Memorial Arena.

But the town of 1,700 is still in the running to win the overall title which includes not only the money but the chance to host a NHL pre-season game, most likely involving the Vancouver Canucks.

People can cast their ballots at the Kraft Hockeyville website.

Angie Clowry, who has been spearheading the energetic campaign, said people can vote as many times as they want to support the community.

Residents can stop by the Lumby Community Hall to cast their ballots, or vote from home or on their phones.

"Former residents from around Canada and snowbirds alike have been showing their Lumby pride on their Facebook group "Vote Lumby for Hockeyville." said Clowry.

Voting closes at 9 p.m. Monday, March 21 and the overall winner will be announced next weekend.
