New gateway signs welcoming visitors to Vernon may be up for the summer tourist season, hopes Mayor Akbal Mund.
Vernon city council has approved the new signs, designed by Tambellini Design Studios, after twice sending them back for modifications.
The wood and concrete signs say, “Vernon, welcome, bienvenue.” An interchangeable greeting sign at the bottom allows the city to change the message or specify events.
“I think they've come a long way,” said Coun. Brian Quiring on Monday. “I think they're going to look great.”
Quiring said concerns over the reflectivity of the signs have been addressed.
Two of the three signs will be located at the existing sign locations at Swan Lake and Highway 6. The third sign will be constructed to the south of the city on Highway 97.
Construction of the signs will begin in the spring of 2016 once a proponent for developing the signs has been identified, according to a city press release.
