2 dead in Vernon crash

Vernon RCMP have confirmed two people are dead following a motor vehicle accident in Vernon early Sunday morning.

“Police and the coroners service are investigating after a vehicle went off Highway 6 at Waddington Drive, killing two occupants,” said Sgt. Mike Moyer.

On Sunday morning around 1:27 a.m., RCMP responded to a report of a motor vehicle collision on Highway 6 at Waddington Drive.

A white 2013 GMC Sierra pickup truck with five occupants was travelling eastbound on Highway 6 and did not make the curve in the road. The vehicle hit the shoulder and rolled several times.

Two 21-year-old female passengers were pronounced dead at scene.

A 21-year-old male driver from Armstrong is under investigation.

“There is indication that alcohol and speed could have been a contributing factor,” said Moyer, adding the incident is being investigated and names are not being released until next of kin are notified.

Any witness are being asked to contact the Vernon RCMP at 250-545-7171.
