Book lovers rule

Vernon's public library continues to be a popular place.

The Vernon branch of the Okanagan Regional Library had 226,164 visits last year, according to newly-released figures. The overall number of visits for the entire ORL region was 1,611,395.

Books and other physical items, such as movies and magazines, are in demand.

A total of 3,009,146 were borrowed across all 29 branches last year, although that is down 2.6 per cent on 2014.

Vernon's borrowing numbers were up slightly at 538,191, a .7 per cent increase on the year before.

Borrowers in Salmon Arm took out 264,577 items, down 1.4 per cent from 2014, while in Armstrong 98,750 items were borrowed, down 3.8 per cent.

The ORL reports that digital resources system-wide, including eBooks and eAudiobooks, jumped a whopping 20.6 percent in 2015 at 366,222 items.
