Events underway at Carnival

The 56th annual Vernon Winter Carnival begins today and runs from Feb. 5-14.

Mardi Gras is this year's theme.

The Hot Air Balloon Fiesta filled the skies above Vernon just after 9 a.m. Friday morning. The event runs over three days.

The B.C. championship snow sculpture competition begins at Silver Star Mountain resort starting at 11 a.m. and runs until Sunday.

The hot air balloon glow has been changed to a twinkle. Residents are urged to visit pilots as they turn on their burners at Kal Tire Place, in the lower parking lot, from 5-6 p.m.

The ever popular and sold out Suds N' Cider takes place at the Vernon Atrium Hotel, beginning at 6:30 p.m.

The event is the Okanagan's longest running and most popular showcase of both mainstream beer, craft beers and cider from all over B.C. and Canada.

On Saturday, the 56th annual Vernon Winter Carnival parade takes place starting at noon. A map of the parade route is available in the Carnival program.

There are approximately 100 entries in the parade, according to organizers.
