Sweepstakes forms would come to your house with the promise that Ed McMahon could knock on your door with a massive, life altering cheque.
It seems those who would prefer to scam you out of your hard earned cash are taking to the phones with a similar type of offer.
A Vernon resident contacted Castanet to say someone tried the scam on him.
He was told he had won $25,000, a diamond watch and free magazine subscriptions through this clearing house sweepstakes.
For the cost of shipping and $3 for any additional magazine he wished to subscribe to the prizes would be sent to him.
All he had to do was provide his credit card number.
When he called them on the scam, they hung up.
"I just wanted to let people know this was going on here in Vernon," the caller said.
"Some people out there may be more trusting than I was."
