Gyula no longer on GVAC

Gyula Kiss is no longer sitting on the Greater Vernon Advisory Committee for Coldstream.

Because the Coldstream councillor is not a director or alternate with the regional district board he is not allowed to sit on the GVAC board said Coldstream Mayor Jim Garlick.

Garlick says he and Coun. Doug Dirk will sit on GVAC, while Kiss and Coun. Peter McClean will be alternates.

“I am not to sure what to say about it. I probably know the most there is to know about water of everyone on there,” said Kiss, adding he has been sitting in GVAC since 2007.

“All of a sudden I am not eligible. It does not make sense to me. I am not pleased to say the least. It's a very unique situation because it is a policy and not a bylaw or anything like that.”

Garlick said Coldstream Council is going to request the regional district change the policy to allow flexibility in who can sit on GVAC.

“We are the only party on GVAC that will not have broader representation on that council,” said Garlick, adding Coldstream contributes to numerous functions that fall under the realm of GVAC.

“Council members want to be part of it and we want to be able to appoint anyone to it.”

Kiss said all of the Vernon councillors and mayor are eligible to sit on the GVAC.
