Armstrong set for snow

With snow expected in the North Okanagan Tuesday, Armstrong city council has been reviewing its snowplowing policies when it comes to roads and sidewalks.

“We're always concerned every year but, basically, everything's going along pretty good,” said Mayor Chris Pieper.

Pieper admitted there had been some complaints about the plowing this month. “We always get them because everybody wants their roads cleared instantly but we do have a policy.”

“We do our main roads first and our school routes and then the steep hills and then the rest of town.” Pieper added, pointing out Armstrong's public works department consists of four people.

“We try to get everything done within the day, but if we get a huge snowfall, it is a little more than that.”

Pieper said Armstrong remains within its snow budget for 2016 which has yet to be hit hard, like last January, when the region was covered by what's become known as 'Snowmaggedon'.

“It wasn't that bad because it all came at once and we were really busy for ten days but after that first week of January we didn't have all that much snow,” Pieper said.
