Culture, water are tops

The newly-acclaimed chair of the Greater Vernon Advisory Committee hopes work on a master culture plan for the North Okanagan region will be finalized in February.

Juliette Cunningham is back in GVAC's top seat for another year after no one ran against her. Coldstream Mayor Jim Garlick is vice-chair.

A major cultural issue is the future of the Vernon Public Art Gallery and calls for the building of a new facility.

It's been back in the news after yet another water leak was discovered in the current gallery, which is in the parkade.

Cunningham says the future of the gallery will come up during “discussion on expanding and improving facilities.”

She expects the formation of an advisory committee, made up of representatives from cultural organizations, once the master plan is completed.

Another significant matter for the committee this year is a review of the master water plan, says Cunningham.
