Counting the birds

The numbers are not available yet, but the North Okanagan Naturalists Club got some nice pictures during the annual Christmas bird count in the Vernon area.

Different teams went bird hunting with their cameras on Dec. 20, near the MacKay reservoir and along the future rail trail by Kekuli Bay.

The day started with a snow storm, said club president Claude Rioux.

“Even though the number of birds counted was down from last year due to the poor morning weather, we had a lot of good sightings and even managed to get shots of some of the species sighted during the count,” Rioux said.

The final count from all the teams is being tallied and is expected to be released soon.
