New website for city

The City of Vernon website is sporting a new look.

The new website launched late Monday, following approval by council at the regular open meeting on Dec. 14.

“The site is designed with a focus on improved communication, ease of navigation, functionality and city branding,” said Tanya Laing Gahr, communications officer with the city. “The launch follows six months of design work and consultation.”

Proponents Upanup Design Studios from Victoria were awarded the contract in July. Council approved the design for the website in September with a budget of $125,000 although Laing Gahr said the final cost was less than $100,000.

The redeveloped website brings two major services provided by the city — economic development and Greater Vernon recreation — under the same umbrella.
“These functions were previously represented by separate websites,” said Laing Gahr. “They have been incorporated into the main site to help residents, visitors and business investors more easily find the information they are needing.”

Links to Vernon Tourism have also been enhanced. The site also incorporates the city's new Activate Life brand and uses numerous attractive, high-quality images of Vernon from Heath Fletcher and Jeff Bassett from Sproing Creative.

“There are several new features on the website, including interactive maps, image gallery and improved search functions. Users can also subscribe to receive City updates including notice of upcoming meetings, career opportunities and news releases,” said Laing Gahr.
