Another doctors clinic?

Could another doctors' clinic be in Vernon's future.

Mayor Akbal Mund says there is “some intent to start up a new clinic.”

Mund's comment follows a meeting this week with a representative of Walk-In Clinics B.C.

There is concern that the upcoming closure of the Vernon Family Doctors' walk-in clinic at the Fruit Union Plaza on Highway 6 will put pressure on Vernon Jubilee Hospital's hospital emergency ward and the other clinics in town. It is slated to shut its doors Mar. 19.

A spokesperson for that clinic has stated the closure is due to a shortage of doctors to cover the shifts.

“My understanding, from what I've heard, is there is some interest (in opening another clinic),” says Mund. “I don't know if it's going to fly.”

Mund says he was satisfied with the outcome of the meeting. “It's nice to meet with people who have the potential to help out.”
