Snowmobilers found

The search for two missing snowmobilers from Salmon Arm ended happily after the pair were found cold, but uninjured early Tuesday morning.

RCMP were notified of the missing men just before midnight after they failed to return from an outing in the Owl Head recreation area, east of Sicamous.

Family and friends first tried, but failed to locate the pair when they failed to return at 7 p.m. as planned.

Shuswap Search and Rescue was activated at 3 a.m. and, at first light, an RCMP helicopter was brought in.

Shortly after arriving on scene, the chopper crew located the weary pair on foot walking out on a logging road.

Police say their snowmobiles had been abandoned and they were a significant distance from any of the searchers or assistance.

The pair were equipped with emergency supplies which would have assisted them during a prolonged outdoor stay, according to police.
