Trapped after hitting deer

A man was briefly trapped in his car after colliding with a deer late Sunday evening near Okanagan College's Vernon campus.

Vernon Fire Rescue Fire Chief Keith Green said crews were called to Highway 97 and College Way just after 9 p.m. Sunday after a silver Kia struck a deer.

Green said the car had heavy front-end damage and the driver was briefly unable to exit the vehicle, but he managed to get out and the jaws of life were not needed.

The man was not injured in the collision.

“The deer was found dead on the opposite side of the highway,” said Green.
