Light a Bulb brighter

Those bulbs atop Vernon Jubilee Hospital's Tower of Care are starting to shine brightly, thanks in part to a big donation from Armstrong.

The Vernon Jubilee Hospital Foundation’s Light a Bulb campaign has raised more than half its $200,000 goal.

“We are excited to have raised $106,125 this early in the campaign,” said campaign chair Marg Bailey.

The campaign got a $50,000 boost from the Armstrong Spallumcheen Health Care Auxiliary.

The auxiliary raises funds through its Bargain Bin thrift store.

“We still have almost $100,000 to raise in a short amount of time, so every donation of any amount is important and very much appreciated," Bailey added.

Other organizations and businesses contributing to Light a Bulb include Trinity Creek Ranch, Elks’ Lodge #45, South Interior Power Pioneers, and Kim’s Concrete Finishing.

The money raised will go toward buying orthopedic equipment to increase the number of hip and knee surgeries performed at VJH. Currently, there are more than 170 people waiting for hip surgery and more than 430 waiting to have knee surgery.

To help light the tree atop the hospital, donations can be made online, by mail to VJH Foundation, 2101-32nd St., Vernon, B.C. V1T 5L2 or phone 250-558-1362.
