Auction a dream come true

The Kalamalka Rotary Club's Dream Auction raised more than $204,000 Saturday, making it one of the most successful events ever.

“Wow. This year we had over $266,000 donated to the Dream Auction – an all-time record for donations as we celebrate the 31st Dream Auction,” said Neil Perry, auction chairperson. “It really has become the social event of the season. The success is due to the enthusiastic donors who support the effort every year and, of course, the wonderful people who bid on these items to help us raise money.”

Mary Jackson, Kalmalka Clubs president, said all of the money raised will be given to worthy charities and projects.

“Our volunteer committee has a selection process, but there is no overhead or administration costs so all of the money goes to projects identified by the committee. We are all working to make Vernon a great place to live,” said Jackson.

“The money raised at the Dream Auction enables Kal Rotary to support dozens of worthy community projects each year. This is the 31st year the Dream Auction has been held and in that time, the club has raised more than $3 million dollars.”

Jackson said the Dream Auction has developed into Vernon’s premiere fundraising event.

“We’re enormously grateful to all of the businesses, professionals and individuals who donate each year as well as the wonderful supporters who bid on all the items,” she said.

Community groups can begin applying for grants in January once the final accounting is complete. Full details are available at kalrotary.org under the funding tab.
