One final push

A final effort to get out the yes vote for a new arena in Vernon will be made next Monday.

An advocacy association, representing groups that use the old Civic arena, will be holding a news conference to press its case.

The heads of the Greater Vernon Minor Hockey Association, Vernon Figure Skating Club, Vernon Ringette Association as well as members of the business community and the Greater Vernon Chamber of Commerce are expected to speak in favour of a new arena.

The Civic, according to city recreation staff, has many failing systems that would cost millions of dollars to refit.

A referendum is being held on whether or not $13.25-million should be spent for a twinned ice sheet at Kal Tire Place.

An advance poll last Wednesday brought out 1,112 voters. Another advance poll takes place Nov. 25 followed by a general voting day Nov. 28.
