Literacy drive raises money

JCI Vernon’s recent Drive One for Literacy Event raised $1,380 for the The Junction Literacy Centre.

The centre addresses gaps in literacy services, manages programs that support the literacy and learning needs of children, youth and seniors while encouraging a love of reading through region wide programs.

The event was part of the Ford Motor Company’s Drive 4 UR Community program and was a partnership between JCI Vernon, Watkin Motors Ford and the Junction Literacy Centre.

“Twenty dollars was donated by Ford for each test drive completed during the event,” said chairperson Karla Ziegler with JCI Vernon.

The fundraiser was part of a larger Make a Little Mean A Lot challenge among four teams of JCI Vernon members who were challenged to take $50 each and grow their funds into a larger sum to donate back to the community.

JCI Vernon members were able to contribute over $5,000 to five local charities and not-for-profit organizations.
