Dream auction

The Dream Auction, Kalamalka Rotary's annual fundraiser takes place this Saturday at the Best Western Lodge in Vernon.

“The money raised at the Dream Auction enables Kal Rotary to support dozens of worthy community projects each year,” said Mary Jackson, president of the club.

The auction has been running for the past 30 years, raising more than $3 million, according to Jackson.

“It’s a huge amount of work bringing in the donations, sorting and cataloguing them, organizing the banquet and selling tickets,” said Neil Perry, auction chairperson.

Perry said all 450 tickets have sold out.

Past donations by the club include:

  • $720,000-plus to social service projects such as the Salvation Army, Big Brothers and Sisters, the Community Dental Centre, the John Howard Society, and the new Rotary pediatric wing of the Vernon Jubilee Hospital;
  • $183,000 for North Okanagan parks and recreation centers and KidSport program;
  • $94,000 to local museums, art galleries, and science centers;
  • $155,000 to projects in developing countries such as Nicaragua, Mexico, India, and Ethiopia;
  • $90,000 to educational endeavors including exchange students involved in international studies.

Community groups can begin applying for grants in January once the final accounting is complete. Full details are available at the Kal Rotary website
