More copper wire stolen

Vernon RCMP are reporting the theft of thousands of dollars in copper wire.

Sometime during the night of Nov. 10-11, someone broke into the parts warehouse of Mormak Equipment, 8140 Beckettes Frontage Rd. in Vernon, and stole approximately 166 feet of copper wire, valued at $5,000.

Const. Jocelyn Noseworthy said a lock was cut at the fenced compound and the culprits targeted only the copper wire.

“You can sell it at any recycling depot,” said Noseworthy. “It is hard to track, especially if they are cutting it up.”

There have been similar crimes in recent months, but Noseworthy said police do not know if they are connected.

On Oct. 20, a break-in at a scrap metal yard on Trinity Valley Road in Lumby netted thieves $6,000 in copper pipe.

Anyone with information regarding this crime is asked to call the Vernon RCMP detachment at 250-545-7171, or CrimeStoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
