White stuff debuts in N. OK

It was looking a lot like winter in parts of the North Okanagan Thursday.

Light snowfall was reported in the Vernon, Lumby and Cherryville areas.

While the white stuff did not amount to much and it quickly melted away, it is a sure sign winter is well on the way.

Skiers will rejoice as Silver Star Mountain Resort recorded another four centimetres of snow overnight.

However, it does not look like the white stuff will be staying in the Valley bottom anytime soon.

Environment Canada is calling for clouds with a chance of showers for the next week with a snow level of 1,200 metres.

According to The Old Farmer's Almanac, winter in the B.C. Interior will be colder than normal, with precipitation and snowfall generally below normal. The coldest periods will be in late December, early to mid-January and early February, with the snowiest periods in mid-November, mid-December, and early and mid-January.

April and May will have near-normal temperatures and precipitation.
