City looks for volunteers

The City of Vernon is asking members of the public to consider serving on one of its advisory committees.

Upcoming committee vacancies include, affordable housing, tourism, transportation and economic development.

The main role of an advisory committee is to provide advice and recommendations to council and provide a community perspective on municipal initiatives and programs, according to a release.

“It’s important that we get a good representation from the community,” said spokesperson Tanya Laing Gahr Tuesday. “These committees help provide council with insights, ideas and perspectives, and these insights are usually grounded in professional or lived experiences.”

Most meetings are held once a month at city hall.

For more information, interested parties are asked to contact Janice Nicol, committee clerk, by calling 250-550-3517 or emailing [email protected], or visit the City of Vernon website.
