Vernon RCMP have confirmed an explosion in a Vernon apartment earlier this month resulted from a marijuana oil extraction lab.
“This is just another example of the danger that exists when people attempt to extract the oils in an operation such as this," police spokesperson Gord Molendyk said.
“The individuals usually use various types of solvents that create vapours and can lead to serious explosions and fires. The added danger in this case is they were in an apartment building that had the potential to harm the many residents who live there.”
The two men involved, age 22 and 21, were seriously burned and were sent to the burn unit in Vancouver.
Police are continuing to investigate the incident.
“There is a chance charges could be laid,” said Molendyk.
