It's been more than two years in the making, but people will soon have a chance to check out the North Okanagan's newest sporting facility.
A 'soft opening' of the Greater Vernon Athletics Park will be held on Friday. Regional district staff and volunteers will be at the park from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m. to welcome visitors and answer any questions.
The track and artificial turf field will become available for use by the general public after the opening, with those areas open for use from dawn until dusk daily. Use of the track and field is free, unless it is booked for exclusive use through the recreation centre at 250-545-6035.
The remainder of the facility will be completed in time for the grand opening event on Sept. 26.
The $7.5 million athletic facility was approved by voters in an April, 2013 referendum.
The track is located next to the Kalamalka Campus of Okanagan College, 7000 College Way.
