Crash claims driver's life

UPDATE 9:45 A.M.

One man is dead as a result of a single vehicle crash on Highway 97A and Eagle Rock Road in Spallumcheen.

RCMP spokesman Gord Molendyk said an officer came across the crash scene just before 4:20 a.m. this morning.

"The investigators have determined the vehicle was northbound. It jumped the median then crossed the two southbound lanes of traffic and went into the ditch. It rolled and landed on its roof," said Molendyk.

The driver and lone occupant, a 30-year-old North Okanagan man, was transported to Vernon Jubilee Hospital.

He has since succumbed to his injuries.

The highway was closed for several hours. It has since reopened.

Police are continuing to investigate.

Highway 97 has reopened this morning, after being closed in both directions approximately four kilometres south of Armstrong due to a vehicle rollover.

DriveBC reports the southbound right lane will still remain closed.

The vehicle incident occurred Friday morning just after 6 a.m.

Traffic may continue to be backed up for some time.
