Wildfire near Falkland

UPDATE 6:15 p.m.

The wildfire burning near Falkland is about seven kilometres up Chase-Falkland Road, at the top of mountain, near Pillar Lake.

Strong winds are blowing the smoke away from Falkland and a nearby farm.

It does not appear that any properties are threatened at this time.

Air tankers are attacking an aggressive wildfire near Falkland.

Kelsey Winter, fire information officer with the Kamloops Fire Centre, said Monday afternoon the blaze is currently four hectares and is near the Blair Main forest service road, off Chase-Falkland Road, which connects with Highway 97 in Falkland.

Falkland is 25 minutes northwest of Vernon.

Winter said the fire is showing “pretty aggressive behaviour.”

“It's a very hot day, and it's very windy,” Winter said, adding the cause of the fire is not known at this time.

It is not threatening any homes or structures.
