SeaDoos collide in dark

Two people are lucky to be alive after a late-night collision at the north end of Kalamalka Lake, Thursday.

According to police in Vernon, a local resident called police after he heard the sound of two vessels colliding shortly after they left the same dock.

The incident occurred just before midnight.

RCMP spokesman Gord Molendyk said officers responded and enlisted the help of a boat owner to locate four people who were rescued from the lake after two personal watercraft had collided.

"A 29-year-old man and a 24-year-old woman were taken to hospital by EHS with significant injuries," said Molendyk.

"The man had a broken pelvis and a broken femur, while the woman also received leg and spinal injuries."

The other two men involved in the crash were uninjured.

Vernon Search and Rescue recovered the watercraft.

RCMP remind everyone that July 19-25 is National Water Safety Week.

“We are fortunate no lives were lost last evening," said Molendyk.
