An intense thunderstorm knocked out power to thousands of BC Hydro customers Monday night.

The storm rolled through the Okanagan just before 9 p.m. with heavy rain, high winds and hail reported in some areas.

Parts of Lake Country, Coldstream and Vernon were affected by the outage.

Downed trees were listed as the cause of several outages.

Power has been restored to many homes, but Hydro's website lists 22 outages still current across the Okanagan-Kootenay region.

The utility company's estimated time of restored power is noon in most instances for those still affected.
