Stickle pickle put on hold

Political pressure has resulted in changes to the Highway 97-Stickle Road intersection being put on hold – for now.

Vernon-Monashee MLA Eric Foster confirms he met with Transportation Minister Todd Stone to discuss the plan for the intersection.

The current ministry solution calls for right-in and right-out only from the notorious intersection, near Squires Four Pub. Under that scenario, traffic returning to Vernon would use Pleasant Valley Road.

Vernon council and businesses in the Swan Lake auto mile area have expressed concern about the idea, saying a traffic light would be a better option.

Ministry officials responded that will increase the chances of rear-end collisions, slow highway traffic and increase greenhouse gas emissions.

“There are two or three other possible options for the intersection,” said Foster.
