The hammers are swinging again in Vernon.
The first quarter of the year saw 88 building permits issued worth $17.4 million, compared to 61 worth $9.7 million for the same period last year.
Many of the permits came in before a building code change, which may account part of the increase, Vernon city council was told, Monday.
There have also been a number of subdivision applications.
“Strong permit value for subdivision generally translates into an increase in building permits going forward,” said Kim Flick, the City of Vernon's director of community development.
