Granny caught thieving

A Vernon couple is on the hunt for a petty thief.

But this thief isn’t the typical young ne’er do well. It’s an elderly woman.

Mike Malinosky was shocked Friday morning to discover on his home surveillance video footage what appears to be a grey-haired old woman, possible in her 70s or 80s, sneak up onto his front porch and steal a small, decorative patio table his wife had just purchased.

Malinosky says the table had only been there for 12 hours.

His wife showed it to him before he went out for work, and when he returned, it was gone.

The woman can clearly be seen sneaking up onto the porch and peering into the front window before picking up the table and walking away.

Malinosky contacted the police and posted the security video to the Vernon Rant And Rave Facebook page, where it’s getting lots of attention.

He’s also scoured the neighbourhood around 43rd Avenue and 20th Street in search of the woman and the table. He’s spoken to neighbours, and nobody recognizes the woman, who appears to be wearing a housecoat and slippers, indicating she hadn’t walked very far to commit the crime.

Malinosky joked that his wife didn’t think they needed surveillance cameras at their home on Vernon’s East Hill, but as soon as the theft happened, “she said get downstairs and see who ripped off my table,” he posted.
