Vernon Market has support

It appears the Downtown Vernon Market will move ahead, if the results of a Downtown Vernon Association survey are accepted by city council at its April 13 meeting.

At the March 25 council meeting, Coun. Catherine Lord said she had heard some businesses were being negatively impacted by the market.

The survey talked to merchants two blocks either side of 32nd street and indicated there is 93 per cent support for the market.

The DVA also reduced the number of market days and restructured the layout to reduce any potential impact on storefront businesses.

“It’s great” said DVA executive director Lara Konkin.

This summer's first market is planned for June 12, provided council approves the street closure.
