Nursing mom gets apology

Village Green Mall administration and the security company contracted by the facility have apologized to a Vernon mother for an incident Wednesday.

Meagan Dueling-Griffith was approached by a young male security guard while nursing her four month old son.

“I was told there is a time and place for that by a security guard at the mall, and that it was inappropriate,” said Dueling-Griffith.

Her mother Tarah Dueling-Love confirms administration did contact the family.

“Admin at the mall was appalled by this behaviour. There is opportunity for the security staff member to become educated and grow, hopefully this will be a good move for him,” said Duelling-Love.

A planned nurse-in at the mall Saturday at 1 p.m. originally planned as protest is still proceeding.

A Facebook event posted on a group site called Vernon Rant and Rave had 81 people confirmed attending the “Feed-in”.

“The mall is very supportive of the feed-in. Since yesterday evening (Thursday) I have seen so many strangers in this community offer their support, resources, thoughts, experiences. I must say I am proud of Vernon! I have always believed it takes a community to raise a child and Vernon here is the proof,” said Dueling-Love
