Lookout to get makeover

Weary travellers and those seeking a place to freshen up will enjoy upgrades coming to the Kalamalka Lake rest area.

As part of the provincial government’s new 10-year transportation plan, it will be upgrading the washrooms and other facilitates near Coldstream, which are just one part of the project’s $9-million price tag over the next three years for new and upgraded rest areas across B.C.

“The Kalamalka lookout became a designated rest area just last year, and having it equipped with the proper facilities is the logical next step,” says Vernon-Monashee MLA Eric Foster.

“The lookout is an important stop for people travelling on Highway 97. We want to make sure that British Columbians are able to travel throughout the province as safely and comfortably as possible.”

The transportation plan – titled B.C. on the Move – is expected to provide a comprehensive roadmap for transportation investments and strategic policy actions over the next decade. Its goal is to enhance safety, grow the economy, maintain and replace aging infrastructure, and support trade for B.C.’s expanding resource sectors through Canada’s Asia-Pacific Gateway.
