Dust advisory lifted

The Ministry of Environment has ended its dust advisory for Vernon issued on Monday due to high concentrations of coarse particulates in the air.

Changing weather conditions have contributed to improving air quality, and this is expected to continue over the next few days, air quality meteorologist Tarek Ayache said in a press release from the Ministry of Environment, Thursday afternoon.

Coarse particulate concentrations have been decreasing, and are currently below advisory levels. The latest PM10 measurements at the Vernon Science Centre station indicate an hourly average of 33 micrograms per cubic metre.

The average for the past 24 hours is 52 micrograms per cubic metre, which is close to the provincial air quality

objective of 50 micrograms per cubic metre.

The dusty conditions were mainly caused by road traffic stirring up winter road sand and gravel that had accumulated on roadways over the winter months.
