Vernon lurer gets 9 months

A Vernon man who attempted to lure a child online has been sentenced to nine months in jail.

Stewart Kerr was arrested in a restaurant in August 2013, when he thought he was meeting a young boy.

Kerr, who is in his 50s, had been communicating online with someone who he believed was a child.

Police investigators adopted the online persona of a child and engaged in dialogue with Kerr. Over the period of a few weeks, that dialogue became increasingly inappropriate and sexual.

He arranged a meet with the child, and with the assistance of the Integrated Sexual Predator Observation Team (ISPOT), he was followed to the meeting from his home and was arrested by the BC ICE unit and uniform members of the Vernon RCMP detachment.

Kerr's sentence includes three years' probation, and a number of conditions governing his access to the Internet and children under the age of 16.

He will also be added to the National Sex Offender Registry.
