Drunk crashes into pole

A North Okanagan man is facing drunk driving charges after colliding with a hydro pole and blowing two-times the legal limit.

On Jan. 18 at about 8:45 p.m., RCMP responded to a report of a vehicle that had just collided with B.C. Hydro pole at 2920 Okanagan St. in Armstrong.

“The crash caused the hydro pole to come down on the vehicle,” explains RCMP spokesman Gord Molendyk. “When our officers arrived, the vehicle was still running and the pole was laying across the box of the Dodge Ram truck.”

The driver was not badly injured in the accident and after being checked out by B.C. Ambulance attendants police questioned the man.

“Officers noticed a strong odour of liquor on the driver and read the breath demands to him,” says Molendyk. “The 24-year-old was brought back to the Vernon detachment to provide breath samples. The readings came back as over twice the legal limit.”

The driver was released on a promise to appear for a court date in March.
