Man struck by SUV in Coldstream

A 69-year-old man is in stable condition after being struck by a vehicle in Coldstream Thursday night.

The man was allegedly hit by a red SUV as he was walking along Kalamalka Lake Road, just north of its intersection with Husband Road. The driver then left the scene before police arrived.

RCMP say the witness who reported the accident has video of the event on his dashboard camera. A short woman with brown hair and wearing a dark jacket is said to have stopped her vehicle to check on the victim, before fleeing the scene.

“The woman told people who were coming to the scene that he was fine. She then jumped back into her vehicle and left,” says RCMP spokesperson Gord Molendyk.

“The victim in this crash was lying unconscious on the side of the road. The victim was wearing all black and was walking northbound on Kalamalka Lake Road, the same direction as the SUV was travelling.”

The extent of the man’s injuries is unknown, but he was taken to hospital for medical treatment.

Police are appealing to the driver of the SUV to come forward.

Anyone with information is asked to call 250-545-7171.
