Snow clearing to take 36-hours

Vernon city crews are warning residents it could take up to 36 hours, after the snow stops, to clear all city roads.

The Vernon area has received over 35 centimetres of snow during in the last 24 hours which has resulted in extremely difficult road conditions.

“Currently, all available city resources are being used for snow and ice control,” says City communications Tanya Laing Gahr. “Plow trucks will remain on main roads until the snow fall stops. Once the snow fall stops and main roads have been plowed and sanded, plow trucks will then plow and sand local residential roads.”

After the snow stops completely they say it will take the full 36-hours to plow and sand all the roads within the City.

“Residents are reminded to plow sidewalks adjacent to your property and to please plow sidewalk and driveway snow back to front yard areas where possible,” adds Gahr. “Snow plowed onto roadways reduces road snow storage areas and can create a hazard for motorists.”

BC Transit in Vernon is running today, but the following routes are taking essential trips only: Route 90 (UBCO Connector) 60 (Enderby) and 61(Lumby); handyDART.
