Teenager arrested with gun

A Vernon-area teenager spent Christmas in jail after being arrested with drugs and an unloaded pistol in his pocket.

On Dec. 25 at about 9 p.m. the Vernon RCMP responded to a report of an intoxicated man holding up traffic in the area of Highway 6 and Pottery Road.

The 16-year-old boy was reportedly walking in and out of traffic on the highway.

A father and son driving by reported he had a handgun and that he was pulling the gun in and out of his coat pocket.

As officers arrived, they confirmed the boy was highly intoxicated and lying in the ditch off of Pottery Road. He was arrested and searched and a handgun was located in his front jacket pocket.

The gun was unloaded but RCMP did find bullets in his upper jacket pocket.

The handgun was a .357 magnum revolver.

The suspect was also in possession of some crystal meth, crack cocaine in small baggies and some cash.

The man's cell phone continued to ring while the officers dealt with him. This 16-year-old Vernon Resident is suspected of trafficking.

He has been remanded in custody and is to appear in court later today to answer to firearms and drug related charges.
