Fire destroys Enderby shop

An Enderby man has lost thousands of dollars in equipment after a early morning fire destroyed a shop near his home on Dale Road.

Fire Chief Kevin Alstad says they were called to the scene at 96 Dale Road Monday morning, around 1:20 a.m.

“Upon arrival we found a fully involved structure fire,” he says. “The roof had been collapsed in already and we pretty much had to just surround and drown.”

Alstad says the building was not at all salvageable and by the time the homeowner even realized what was happening, the building was already fully engulfed.

The shop held a large quantity of items, all of which were lost in the fire.

“He had a couple tractors, a skid steer, his bailer was in there, snowmobiles, quads, his street bike. He lost a truck and a lot of miscellaneous other stuff,” says Alstad, who adds that fortunately for the owner, he was fully insured.

As for what caused the fire, that is still being investigated, but they do not believe it is suspicious.

“The damage is pretty extensive. I don't know if I'll be able to have a definite cause,” says Alstad. “At this time we are not suspicious of any arson or foul play whatsoever.

He says 23 firefighters attended the scene and worked to contain the fire to the single building.
