$90K for mental illness support

The Mental Health support community in Vernon has just got a large financial boost with grants from the BC Government.

The Mental Illness Family Support Centre and their Farm Friends Program received $89,750 in Community Action Initiative grants.

Funding will support the programs that help those affected by mental illness and substance abuse issues through gardening and hands-on activities.

The program is located at Patchwork Farms on the Okanagan College Vernon Campus.

“This funding will go to good use directly helping individuals and families in our community affected by mental illness and substance abuse,” says Eric Foster, MLA for Vernon-Monashee.

“The Farm Friends Program ensures participants and their families get support they need, while they develop and gain new skills gardening, build new relationships with teammates, and have fun outdoors.”

The Community Action Initiative (CAI) is a province-wide program that supports mental health and substance use groups across B.C.
